Tommy P. Bennington, 78 years old of Washington, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at his home in the early morning hours of April 18th, 2026. Tommy was born on November 6th, 1947, in Washington, Indiana, to Hoyt P. and Vera Jean (Stuffle) Bennington. Tommy was a 33-year auditor for the state of Indiana. Tommy attended Parkview Christian Church for many years, where he served as an elder and treasurer of the church. He enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball, St. Louis Blues hockey, and IU sports with his family. Tommy married his lovely wife Jerri (Shawhan) Bennington on May 20th,1972. Tommy was married to his wife for 54 years. Together, they had two sons, Jonathan Hoyt Bennington and Andrew Preston Bennington. He had two wonderful granddaughters, Hannah Jo and Sarah Jean Bennington, and beloved great-grandcats Kitler and Devvie Bennington.
Tommy is preceded in death by his parents, stepfather William Elwood “Woody” Dougherty, mother in law Jo Ann Shawhan, all grandparents, sister Diane McGraw, and great-grandcat Kitler Bennington.
Survivors of Tommy include wife Jerri Bennington, sons Andrew Preston (Mary) Bennington, and Jonathan Hoyt Bennington, granddaughters Hannah and Sarah Bennington, father in law John B. Shawhan, nephews Alan (Patty) Dyer, Kelly (Anita) Dyer, and several great nieces and nephews, and great-grandcat Devvie Bennington.
Services for Tommy will be held at Parkview Christian Church with a viewing on Wednesday, April 22nd from 3-6pm with service following promptly at 6pm with Brother Alfred Helms and Brother Jason Shemanski officiating, with interment following immediately after at Plainville Cemetery.
