Heavy rain Monday night led to hazardous travel conditions across Daviess County, with multiple reports of high water and downed trees blocking roadways. Police responded to several calls in and around Washington, including high water covering parts of U.S. 50 and State Road 58, making travel difficult and in some cases forcing drivers to turn around. Officers noted conditions were worsening at times and assisted with traffic control. Several roads were also blocked by fallen trees, including areas along State Road 57 and County Road 400 South, where both lanes were shut down until crews could clear debris. In some cases, citizens helped remove tree limbs before crews arrived. Emergency responders and highway departments worked throughout the evening to clear roads and monitor conditions.
