Joy (Clinton) Cunningham, 107, of Washington, Indiana, went to her Heavenly home on Friday, November 25, 2022, at Emerald Place in Washington.
She was born on September 22, 1915, to the late Daniel J. and Lula (Fettic) Clinton, in Plainville, Indiana.
Joy was a 1933 graduate of Plainville High School. Shortly after high school, Joy married the love of her life, Garland Cunningham, and they spent forty-two years happily married. Together they had two sons, the late Ronald Lee Cunningham and Richard Edwin Cunningham.
Joy spent her life caring for others and volunteering wherever she was needed. She enjoyed gardening, and always had beautiful flowers to show for it. She also loved to cook and can, and quilt in her free time. Joy enjoyed watching basketball, particularly IU and the Indiana Pacers. She also enjoyed going on walks with her sister Dorothy, and loving on her two dogs over the years.
Joy is survived by her daughter in laws, Marilyn Cunningham of Terre Haute and Helen Cunningham of Mooresville, her grandchildren, Lisa K. Cunningham of Indianapolis, Michelle Cunningham of Terre Haute, Denise (Cunningham) Joslin (Jeff) of Terre Haute, her great – grandson, Kody Frederick (Mazie Creasey) of Terre Haute, her great – great – grandson, Kayson Frederick, her sister, Dorothy Baldwin of Washington, several nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Lula, her husband, Garland, her sons, Ronald and Richard, her grandson, Michael Edwin Cunningham, her brothers, Orrell, Gilbert, Jay, Carl, and Ray Clinton, and her sisters, Hazel (Clinton) Daugherty, Louise (Clinton) Theyssen, and Ruth (Clinton) Hanlon.
Visitation for Joy will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at Goodwin Sievers Funeral Home, 2020 State St., Washington, Indiana
47501, from 11:00 – 12:00pm. A funeral service will follow immediately at 12:00pm with Pastor Tim Baxter officiating. Interment will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Odon, where Joy will be laid to rest next to her husband, Garland.
