Washington Light and Power has announced plans to upgrade the equipment at the SW 11th Street Substation due to its aging condition and recent breakdowns. Temporary changes to the power system have already been made while the utility works to acquire replacement parts. The upgrade is scheduled to begin on Wednesday morning, April 10, with all power being transferred to the substation at Eastside Park during the process, which is expected to take approximately one month. The new equipment will be state-of-the-art, providing increased monitoring capabilities for the power grid and allowing for future expansion. While the upgrade may lead to more widespread outages in the event of incidents such as vehicle wrecks, accidents, or wildlife interference, Washington Light and Power assures customers that restoration times will not be affected. Washington Light and Power remains committed to providing low-cost and reliable power to the community and encourages customers to report any issues or questions regarding the upgrade process by calling 812-254-5171.
