State officials are reminding drivers to use caution as planting season brings more farm equipment onto Indiana roads. The Indiana State Department of Agriculture, INDOT and Indiana State Police say motorists should slow down, stay alert and be patient when encountering large, slow-moving machinery this spring. Common equipment such as tractors, sprayers and trucks often travel under 25 mph and may take up much of the roadway. Officials say crashes involving farm equipment can be serious, noting that several incidents in recent years have resulted in fatalities. Drivers are urged to avoid distractions, not tailgate and use extra caution when passing, especially near intersections or in no-passing zones. Farmers may pull over when it is safe, but that can take time. Authorities emphasize that sharing the road responsibly will help keep both motorists and farmers safe throughout the planting season.
