The Jasper Fire Department has released additional details about a house fire that occurred Thursday evening in the 300 block of West 36th Street. Fire officials say no one was home at the time of the fire. A passerby noticed the flames and attempted to rescue animals inside the home, but two dogs and two cats did not survive. Firefighters were able to keep most of the flames contained to the garage and attic, preventing the fire from spreading further. However, the home sustained significant smoke and water damage, and nearby houses received minor damage. The cause of the fire remains undetermined. Crews spent about three hours battling the fire, and the American Red Cross has been contacted to assist those affected.
