A new era is beginning for Loogootee Lady Lions softball as Josh Franklin steps in as the team’s new head coach, replacing longtime coach Greg Clark, who led the program for 25 years. Franklin recently joined Greg Bateman on Gettin’ in the Know, which airs Sundays at 8:30 a.m. on Razor 94.5, to discuss his background and the upcoming season. Franklin said his passion for softball grew while coaching his daughter in youth leagues and travel ball, eventually leading him to study the game and pursue the opportunity to coach at the high school level. Franklin said he hopes to build on the strong foundation established by Clark while bringing his own approach to the program. The Lady Lions return a mix of veteran leadership and younger players this season, along with several new additions to the roster. The program is also seeing improvements to Costello Field, including new LED stadium lights and several planned facility upgrades funded in part by a grant from the school foundation. Planned improvements include a rebuilt infield, new bases and batter’s boxes, and the addition of a warning track to improve safety and field conditions. Franklin said the team’s focus this season will be on growth and preparation for postseason play, while also emphasizing resilience and learning from setbacks. The full interview with Coach Franklin will air Sunday morning at 8:30 on Razor 94.5.
