A unique piece of local history came full circle on April 3rd as a descendant of the city’s founder visited Bicknell. Bicknell Mayor Thomas Estabrook says Suzanne Frilot, a Texas resident and direct descendant of founder John Bicknell, stopped by City Hall while researching her family’s ties to the community. Frilot, whose mother was originally from Bicknell, made the trip to learn more about the city’s early history. Estabrook says the visit provided a rare opportunity to discuss Bicknell’s beginnings, including the original layout of the city, early land sales, the nickname “Stumptown,” and John Bicknell’s contributions to local churches and the community. The mayor says he hopes Frilot will return for a future visit, noting events like Labor Day weekend could offer another chance to connect with her family’s roots.
