A new community gathering space is set to open in Montgomery next month. The Daviess County Economic Development Corporation invites the public to the grand opening of Main Street Park on Friday, May 15, from 3 to 6 p.m., with a ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled for 4 p.m. The event will also feature live music and several local food trucks. The new park transforms a previously vacant gravel lot in downtown Montgomery into a welcoming space designed for community use. Features include green space, seating, a mural, a shade canopy and a water feature. The project was developed through a partnership between the Town of Montgomery and students from Indiana University’s Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design as part of a rural engagement initiative. Funding for the project includes a $50,000 matching grant from the Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority, along with an additional $5,000 from AARP Indiana. Community members are encouraged to attend and help celebrate the opening of the new downtown park.
