A section of Washington Avenue in Vincennes, will be closed to drivers by the end of this week. The closure, originally planned for two weeks ago, was delayed by the mayor’s office to accommodate the end of the school year and the holiday weekend. Subcontractors from Duke Energy have already started relocating utility lines by setting poles, while Miller Pipeline is installing new gas lines for Center Pointe Energy. The first phase of the Washington Avenue Project is expected to be completed by October. During the closure, the designated detour will be Niblack Boulevard to 6th Street, then Old Wheatland Road to Belle Crossing. Phases Two and Three of the project will commence in 2024, spanning from Niblack Boulevard to Emison Avenue. Once those phases are finished, the final phase from Emison Avenue to St. Clair Street will begin.
