
Voters across the region turned out Tuesday for the primary election, deciding a number of key local and state races. In State Representative District 63, Democrat Tiffanie Arthur won her primary with nearly 64 percent of the vote, defeating Anthony Bolen and Adam Mann. On the Republican side, Amy Kippenbrock secured the nomination with 6,838 votes, or 77 percent, over Dr. Richard Moss.
In State House District 45, Republican Kellie Streeter won the primary with 4,938 votes, or 53.2 percent, defeating incumbent Bruce Borders, who received 4,337 votes, or 46.8 percent. Streeter will advance to face Democrat Rebecca “Becky” Mayfield in the November general election.
In the State Senate District 39 race, Republican Jeff Ellington won with 7,940 votes, or 46 percent, defeating Kristi Risk and Tanner Bouchie.
In Pike County, Buck Seger won the Republican primary for sheriff with 1,152 votes, defeating Dallas Killian, who received 704 votes.
In Dubois County, Tim Lampert won the sheriff’s race with 4,577 votes, ahead of Jesus Monarrez with 1,827 and Brian LaRoche with 1,021. For Commissioner District 2, Doug Uebelhor won with 5,131 votes over Dean Vonderheide with 1,857. In the Recorder’s race, Tammy Guth won with 3,718 votes, defeating Sheila Asbell, who received 2,557.
In Daviess County, Republican Kip Kelley won the County Council District 3 race, defeating Jacob Stephens 568 votes to Stephen’s 372. In the Madison Township Trustee race, Republican Shelly Chestnut defeated Bob Wilz 237 to 132. Democratic winners for Convention Delegate at Large were Ellie Smith, Gary Arthur, Rowdy Abbott, and Caitlin McCreary.
In Martin County, Keith Keller won the Republican primary for sheriff, defeating Jonah Shaw 1,645 to 468. For prosecutor, Republican Mike Steiner defeated incumbent Aureola Vincz 1,356 to 762. In the Center Township Trustee race, Republican James “Bub” Brown defeated incumbent Ann Marie Baker 298 to 114.
For Shoals Town Council on the Republican ballot, winners were Cody Roush with 133 votes, Luke Copeland with 89, and Rheta Shaw with 88. On the Democratic side, Cecil Ragsdale received 32 votes, Walter Holt 31, and Jeff Jones 27. In the Shoals Clerk-Treasurer race, Democrat Tina Franklin defeated Roger Downey 35 to 15.
In the Crane Town Council Republican race, winners were Robert Gallagher with 27 votes, C.J. Parcels with 23, and Jeff Clark with 22.
In Knox County, Dan Short won the Republican primary for sheriff with 40.55 percent, and will face Democrat Brian Hagen in November. In the Assessor’s race, Zac Harper led with 2,087 votes, followed by Robert “Woody” Woodward with 1,952 and Ovi Ciceu with 675.
For County Recorder, Vickie Bottoms won with 59.03 percent. In Commissioner District 3, Matt Hoffman won with 2,693 votes, or 53.13 percent.
For County Council District 1, Terry Vieck received 66.86 percent. In District 3, incumbent Jay Yochum received or 49.48 percent. In District 4, Brandy Toney won with 56.65 percent.
These results set the stage for the general election in November.
