Residents in Martin County will have an opportunity to take part in a community spring clean-up event later this month. The clean-up will be held at the Martin County Recycling Center in Loogootee on Friday, May 15 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturday, May 16 from 8 a.m. to noon. Fees will vary depending on load size, with small pickups costing $20, full-size pickups $30, and trailers $40. Certain items, including tires, paint, electronics, and batteries, will not be included in the standard fee, and items containing freon will require an additional charge. Construction waste will be accepted at a rate of $80 per ton. Officials note that yard waste will not be accepted, and aluminum cans will not be purchased during the event. However, recyclable materials such as cardboard, paper products, cans, plastics, glass, and clothing will still be accepted.
