The Washington Police Department and Washington Fire Department will face off next Friday, December 12, in a friendly fundraising challenge for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign outside the Washington Walmart. The event, running 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., pits officers and firefighters against one another to see who can raise the most donations for local families in need. Each department will staff one Walmart entrance and switch doors halfway through the day to keep the contest fair. The final tally will be counted at 5 p.m. Officers joked about singing and dancing for donations, while firefighters noted they’ll have Halle the firehouse Dalmatian on hand to draw crowds. The idea originated with community member Jeremy Adams, and Salvation Army coordinator Brenda Sabaki says the challenge helps boost holiday giving. She also emphasized the continued need for volunteers and encouraged residents to sign up for bell-ringing shifts at RegisterToRing.com. All funds collected through the Red Kettle campaign stay in Daviess County to assist families facing emergencies or hardship. Residents are invited to stop by, enjoy the friendly rivalry, and support a cause that directly helps neighbors in need.
